Why eat healthy?
Some people worry more than others about their eating, some go on diets, some reduce their amount of food they eat, some restrict certain food, but other just don't care. Healthy eating is about getting the correct amount of nutrients protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Some people eat whatever they like and want, and this is a big problem. Even though you don't see the effects of those foods in your body, they still harm you on the inside and eventually something will happen to you that will make you regret your decisions. For example diabetes. Some people eat a lot of sugar because they like it and well why not? But they don't pay attention to the future consequences that can happen to them when they grow old. |
Why is the food pyramid important? The food pyramid may seem lame and unnecessary. Some people think that the food pyramid isn't effective, but some do. The food pyramid is quite effective, it is designed to make healthy eating easier and it makes you realize how much of a category of food (grains, fruits, sugars, carbohydrates etc.) you need to eat. In the food pyramid foods that contain the same type of nutrients are grouped together on each of the shelves of the Food Pyramid. Following the Food Pyramid as a guide will help you get the right balance of nutritious foods within your calorie range. Studies show that we take in too many calories from foods and drinks high in fat, sugar and salt, on the top shelf of the Food Pyramid. They provide very little of the essential vitamins and minerals your body needs. Limiting these is essential for healthy eating.
